In May, I discussed the five components of self-care in the child and adolescent population. This month's
focus is social wellness, defined as the ability to form positive social connections with others, instilling a
sense of belonging, and building healthy relationships. Social wellness is an essential part of healthy
development in this population.
Several programs can help assist families in this aspect. Social skills
training programs can teach children to make friends, resolve conflicts, and effectively communicate.
Family therapy can contribute to social wellness by improving relationships and communications
between family members. School-based interventions can assist in the development of social wellness
skills, which includes peer mentoring and social-emotional learning programs. Parents, schools, and
community partners must prioritize social wellness as a fundamental aspect of child and adolescent
development. Next month, I will discuss the role of spiritual wellness in healthy development.
Wishing you happiness and wellness,
Wanda
